Route

How does the day work?

Your SUV heads north past Flagstaff to Lower, with a Horseshoe Bend walk before the return to Phoenix or Scottsdale.

  1. pass by
    1. Flagstaff

Your SUV passes Flagstaff on the drive north. You travel out of the Sonoran Desert with views toward the San Francisco Peaks along the way.

  2. 45 min
    2. Navajo Trail Trading Post

Navajo crafts give this road stop its focus. Your party has time to look around the trading post before continuing toward the canyon visit.

  3. 120 min
    3. Lower Antelope Canyon

Your Navajo guide leads the group inside Lower. Loose sand and steep stairs require steady footing, and the canyon visit includes other travelers.

  4. 60 min
    4. Page

Lunch in Page is at your own expense. A photo stop at Lake Powell or Glen Canyon Dam can be added around the meal.

  5. 60 min
    5. Horseshoe Bend overlook

The 1.5-mile (2.4 km) round-trip trail has two shade shelters and little shade overall. There's none at the overlook.

The Lower stop has 120 minutes within your 14-hour trip. Horseshoe Bend has 60 minutes before the return to your Phoenix or Scottsdale pickup point.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Pickup zone: Hotels and homes in the Phoenix or Scottsdale pickup zone are served. Outside that area, Detours chooses a meeting point based on where you're staying.
  • Departure details: Check your pickup location with Detours as soon as you book. You need to be ready 5 minutes before pickup, with later departures dependent on availability.
  • Private ride: Your party has a private SUV from the arranged Phoenix or Scottsdale pickup point to Page and back.
  • Child seats: Your children count toward the five-person limit. Bring any required child seats and settle the seating arrangement with Detours before departure.

Before you book

  • Detours must accept your booking after payment before the trip can go ahead. You can't cancel this offer for a refund.

Fit

Is this tour right for you?

Up to five people can share the private SUV for a 14-hour day. It's a fit if you want your own vehicle and don't mind other visitors inside Lower. Your party still needs to handle steep stairs. Detours must accept the booking, and you can't cancel it for a refund.

Detours' shared tour covers breakfast and lunch from $454 per person if you don't need your own vehicle. Wandering Heart costs from $390 per adult for 2 or more for at least two adults and suits less settled plans. Cancellation is free until 24 hours before departure.

Means: The Private SUV Option at 5 a.m. is the pick because later departures depend on availability.

Who it's not for

  • Parties larger than five
  • Travelers who want an exclusive canyon visit
  • Travelers who need a refund if plans change

Good to know

Know before you go

Children and seats

The SUV option holds up to five people, including children. Your group supplies its own required car seats or boosters. Check those arrangements with Detours before booking a family departure.

Clothes and footwear

Layers and closed shoes suit the walks in Page. Your clothing needs to handle summer heat or winter cold. The private ride doesn't change the sand and stairs you face inside Lower.

Canyon restrictions

Purses and backpacks aren't allowed inside the canyon. Tripods and hiking poles are also barred. Service animals can't enter Lower, so the SUV's private status doesn't solve access inside the slot.

Pickup arrangements

Your party needs to be ready 5 minutes early. Page time matches Phoenix year-round. Navajo Nation time runs 1 hour ahead from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November and matches otherwise.

Weather changes

Lower can close because of weather. Check the refund terms for a canyon closure after departure before paying. A private SUV doesn't guarantee that the canyon will stay open.

Booking approval

Your booking proof is mobile, and the operator must accept your request after purchase. Payment doesn't guarantee the departure. Voluntary cancellation doesn't qualify for a refund.

People also ask

  • Is the Detours private Antelope Canyon price per person?

Detours' private Antelope Canyon tour starts from $2,340 per vehicle for up to 5. The price covers Lower and Horseshoe Bend entry for your party. You have the vehicle to yourselves during the road portions of the trip. Meals and tips need a separate budget.

  • Is Lower Antelope Canyon private on the Detours SUV tour?

Detours' private SUV tour shares the Lower Antelope Canyon visit with other guests. Your private group of up to five keeps the SUV to itself on the road. A Navajo guide leads the shared canyon walk. The 120-minute canyon stop doesn't mean that all of that time is spent inside the slot.

  • Can the Detours private Antelope Canyon tour start later than 5 a.m.?

Detours' private tour can start at 6 or 7 a.m. if space is available. Your usual departure is 5 a.m. A later hour needs Detours to accept it for your date. Pick your departure with that limit in mind before arranging the rest of your day.

  • Can the Detours private Antelope Canyon tour be booked the night before?

Detours may decline private Antelope Canyon bookings made after 7 p.m. the night before. Detours has to accept the request before the trip can go ahead. Your payment doesn't settle that availability question. Check the operator's reply before relying on the next morning's pickup.

  • How much walking is on the Detours private Antelope Canyon tour?

Detours' private Antelope Canyon tour includes the 1.5-mile (2.4 km) round-trip walk at Horseshoe Bend. You need steady footing on loose sand and sloping rock. The canyon also has steep stairs and ladders. A private vehicle doesn't make either walking stop suitable if you can't manage those movements.
