The walk
The stairs
Five flights of steel stairs lead into Lower. The ladders have handrails; you'll still need to climb them on foot. Wear closed-toe shoes.
The slot
Lower narrows at your feet and opens toward the sky. Light reaches the sandstone through the wider opening above you.
The exit
You climb out at the far end of Lower. The loop takes you back above ground to where you checked in.
Upper, across the road
Upper Antelope Canyon has a wider floor inside. Its exit hike still has stairs, so it isn't a step-free choice.

Tours
Know before you go
Check in 30 minutes early with the card used to book and government ID. Join your group 10 minutes before departure. Late groups lose their places without refunds.
Your check-in is 45 minutes before departure, and parking's included.
Page time doesn't change. Navajo Nation time is 1 hour ahead from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November; otherwise the clocks match. Set your phone to Phoenix time.
Storms upstream can close Lower at short notice even when it isn't raining where you're standing.
Weather cancellations get full refunds at Dixie's; Ken's refunds before departure, with no refund once your tour starts.
Dixie's requires hiking backpacks for children 2 and younger; your ordinary bags still aren't allowed.
Good to know
Lower sits east of Page on Navajo Nation land; you'll reach it from AZ-98 via Indian Route 222. Your booking names the check-in office. Ken's and Dixie's share the canyon but have separate check-in points.
Dixie's allows full refunds until 24 hours before departure. Ken's cutoff is 72 hours, with booking fees kept. Both visit Lower, so either works if its time slot fits your plans for the rest of the day.
Ken's General Tour and Dixie's direct hiking tour start from $80.50 per person with the permit included. Your check-in is 30 minutes before departure at Ken's and 45 minutes at Dixie's. Both routes include stairs and ladders. Register every child when booking.
Ken's General takes 50 to 60 minutes; Dixie's takes 60 to 90. Check-in comes first, so you need another 30 minutes at Ken's or 45 at Dixie's before departure, with time afterward for your next stop.
March through October: 7:15 to 10:45 a.m. or after 1:45 p.m. suit a Dixie's visit. Ken's beam window is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from late spring through mid-fall. Your light still depends on conditions.
Lower suits you if climbing is part of the appeal. Upper has more floor space and still requires a Navajo guide; its exit has stairs and ramps. Neither gives you wheelchair access on its tour.
