Route

How does the day work?

The drive heads north through Flagstaff to Lower, then turns back toward Phoenix after your walk to Horseshoe Bend.

  1. pass by
    1. Route 66 near Flagstaff

You pass Flagstaff without a sightseeing stop. The road climbs out of the Sonoran Desert toward the San Francisco Peaks before continuing north.

  2. 30 min
    2. Navajo Trail Trading Post

Navajo crafts are the focus of this stop. You have time to look around the trading post and learn about local culture.

  3. 120 min
    3. Lower Antelope Canyon

Your Navajo guide leads you through Lower. The walk takes you among the sandstone formations with chances to photograph the rock walls.

  4. 60 min
    4. Page

Lake Powell views come before lunch in Page. Your meal is a group stop at a local restaurant after the visit to Lower.

  5. 60 min
    5. Horseshoe Bend overlook

The trail leads to the Horseshoe Bend overlook. From there you can photograph the Colorado River as it curves around the rock below.

Lower has a 120-minute stop within the 14-hour day. That allowance doesn't mean 120 minutes walking inside the canyon. You return to your pickup point in the evening.

Pickup and meeting point

  • Pickup area: Selected Phoenix and Scottsdale hotels are served. Private homes aren't. Detours may assign a different hotel even if yours appears among the pickup choices.
  • Before pickup: Check your meeting point with Detours at least one week ahead. The exact time arrives by email the afternoon before. Plan to be ready 30 minutes early.
  • Meeting option: Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix North/Happy Valley is at 2550 West Charlotte Drive in Phoenix. Detours can assign a closer point if you aren't staying there.
  • Ride and seats: Your tour includes round-trip transport from selected Phoenix-area hotels to Page. Required child seats are yours to bring.

Before you book

  • If Lower closes, an offered Upper replacement can cost extra. Declining it refunds only the Lower portion, while the rest of your trip stays nonrefundable.

Fit

Is this tour right for you?

A 14-hour day works if you want both meals arranged and can travel on Thursday or Saturday. Your group shares the van with other guests. You need steady footing for Lower's stairs. This suits firm plans that don't need a refund.

Wandering Heart offers home pickup from $390 per adult for 2 or more when at least two adults book. Cancel free until 24 hours before departure. Detours' private SUV suits parties wanting their own vehicle from $2,340 per vehicle for up to 5.

Means: Choose the 14-hour Small Group Option for Lower and both meals if your plans are firm.

Who it's not for

  • Children under 3
  • Travelers who can't climb steep stairs
  • Guests who need pickup at a private home
  • Travelers who need refundable bookings

Good to know

Know before you go

Children and seats

Children must be at least 3 to join. Detours doesn't provide car seats or boosters. Your party supplies the seats needed for the ride and tells Detours before departure.

Canyon gear

Wear closed shoes and layers for the walking stops. Purses and backpacks can't enter Lower. Tripods and hiking poles must stay out too.

Pickup messages

Your pickup email arrives the afternoon before departure. Page time matches Phoenix year-round. Navajo Nation time runs 1 hour ahead from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November and matches otherwise.

Weather changes

A weather closure at Lower can lead to an Upper replacement that costs extra. You can decline that change. Only the Lower portion is refunded if you do, while the rest of the day stays nonrefundable.

Group requirements

One booking can cover up to 12 of the van's 13 places. A minimum traveler count also applies. If the group falls short, you get an alternative or a full refund.

Booking and refunds

Your booking proof is digital, so keep it on your phone. Bookings made within 1 day need operator approval after payment. Canceling your place doesn't bring a refund, including if illness or a canceled flight keeps you away.
